MARUDI: Thirteen residents from three villages have been moved to the temporary relief centre at Dewan Suarah Daerah Marudi after experiencing days of rising river levels compounded by heavy rain.
The centre, which opened on Wednesday afternoon, is now sheltering three families from Kampung Padang Kerbau, Kampung Cina and Kampung Dagang.
The evacuees include children, a baby and elderly villagers.
According to the District Disaster Management Committee, the latest head count stands at eight people from Kampung Padang Kerbau, two from Kampung Cina and three from Kampung Dagang.
Civil Defence officer, Lieutenant (PA) Mirwan Shah Masri, confirmed the figures, adding that the situation remains under control.
Six personnel from the Civil Defence Force, Social Welfare Department and RELA are stationed at the centre.
The flooding is linked to a king tide that coincided with intermittent downpours since September 5.
Authorities expected the numbers could change as the situation develops.
