KUCHING: Sarawak’s racial and religious unity was on full display as thousands of people from all walks of life joined the Aidilfitri Open House organised by Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata) today (Apr 12).
Many also took the opportunity to dress in their Raya’s best and brought their families to participate in the festivities at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre here.
The open house was organised to commemorate the end of Ramadan and to bring together Cahya Mata’s Board of Directors, clients, partners, vendors, suppliers, employees and their families in the spirit of Syawal.
Its Group Managing Director Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib said that Aidilfitri is a time to reflect on faith and gratitude in the spirit of forgiveness, as well as to renew and celebrate bonds of family and friendship.
“Our success as one of Sarawak’s most recognisable homegrown corporations and brands was built on working with, supporting, and giving back to the community at large.
“This Aidilfitri Open House is an opportunity for Cahya Mata to strengthen these ties and build closer relationships with our employees, business partners and the community,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Group Sustainability Committee chairman and independent non-executive director Datuk Maznah Abdul Jalil said that Cahya Mata’s Open House aligns with the time-honoured Malaysian tradition of visiting friends and family during Aidilfitri regardless of ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, Cahya Mata is doing our part to foster social cohesion and unity and give back to the community in various ways, not just during Ramadan, Hari Raya and other festivals but throughout the year across the Group via initiatives such as blood donation drives, tree planting and upgrading of infrastructure/facilities at community centres and places of worship,” she said.
This year, Cahya Mata also hosted its first iftar with Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak
Yatim Sarawak (PERYATIM) Kuching and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Kuching (RKKTPHNK), bringing together over 250 children, caregivers, staff, and CahyaMata employees.
