SEOUL: South Korean police have detained more than three thousand suspects linked to online sex crimes over the past year, with almost half of them teenagers, Yonhap News Agency reported.
The National Police Agency reported 3,411 online sexual abuse cases from November last year to October this year, resulting in 3,557 detentions, including 221 formal arrests.
Deepfake offences accounted for 35.2 per cent of cases, followed by child sexual videos at 34.3 per cent and illegally filmed content at 19.4 per cent.
Teenagers were the largest group of suspects at 1,761, followed by people in their twenties at 1,228, and those in their thirties and forties at 468 and 169 respectively.
The NPA said more than ninety per cent of deepfake related suspects were teenagers or people in their twenties, attributing the trend to their familiarity with digital technology. – BERNAMA
