MIRI: Severe flooding has wreaked havoc across the Baram areas, affecting 74 areas spanning the districts of Beluru, Telang Usan, and Marudi.
As of 9 pm on Feb 4, a total of 9,724 people had been impacted by the rising waters, with many forced to flee their homes.
Relief efforts are underway, with 4,080 food packs already distributed to those in need.
According to a report from the Marudi, Beluru, and Telang Usan District Disaster Management Committee, 139 flood victims from 42 families have been relocated to a temporary evacuation centre at the Beluru Community Hall.
The scale of the disaster varies across the districts. Marudi has seen 3,018 people affected across 33 areas, while Beluru has recorded the highest number, with 6,458 people displaced from 63 locations.
In Telang Usan, 248 people from two areas have also been caught in the disaster.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as floodwaters persist, leaving many communities submerged and in urgent need of assistance.
Emergency teams are working to provide aid and ensure the safety of those displaced.
