KUCHING: Thousands of Christians flocked to various churches here to attend the Good Friday services yesterday.

The fine weather saw nearly 5,000 Catholics attending the Good Friday service, which started at 3pm at St Peter’s Church, Jalan Pandugan here.

Parish priest Reverend Father Vincent Chin delivered the service in English.

Good Friday is a day when Christians all over the world remember the passion, suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. On this day, Christians normally fast and refrain from eating meat.

The service conducted were part of the Easter Triduum, which began on Holy Thursday, followed Holy Saturday and ends on Easter Sunday.

Today (April 20), that is Holy Saturday, also known as Easter Eve, people commemorate the day Jesus Christ was laid in the tomb after his death while tomorrow (Sunday April 21), people shall celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ or the day he was raised from the dead.

Meanwhile, at one of the older churches, St Thomas’ Cathedral, thousands of Anglicans attended the Good Friday service at 12.00 noon.
