BINTANGOR: Three men were arrested by the police from the Meradong District Police Headquarters for suspected involvement in drug abuse activities, during an operation conducted here.
Meradong District Police Chief, DSP Tansli Mering, said the suspects were detained during Ops Tapis Khas on Wednesday.
“Urine screening tests on all suspects returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in a statement.
He added that checks revealed that none of the suspects had any prior criminal record.
“All three suspects have been detained and are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Tansli said the offence carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, upon conviction.
He further emphasised that the police view drug-related offences seriously, and will not compromise on such activities.
“The public are urged to cooperate by providing information to the police on any drug-related activities in Meradong District,” he said.
