KUCHING: Police have arrested a male suspect and two female suspects in connection with the murder of a university student in Cyberjaya.

Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the arrests were made during operations conducted by teams from Selangor and Sepang between 9:00 am yesterday and 2:00 am today in Johor Baru, Johor, and Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan, New Straits Times reported.

“The suspects will be brought before the Sepang Sessions Court this morning for a remand application,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, it was reported that 20-year-old Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara from Kuching was found dead in her dormitory room at the Mutiara Ville condominium in Cyberjaya on Tuesday morning (Jun 24), prompting police to open a murder investigation.

The victim, a student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy at a private university, was found unconscious with head injuries by a friend at around 10:00 am.

Norhizam said initial investigations found no signs of forced entry into the unit, but the victim had sustained head wounds.

An autopsy later confirmed that she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Police also ruled out any signs of sexual assault.

According to sources, the victim had been staying in the unit with five other housemates, all of whom had returned to their hometowns for the semester break on 21 June.

The victim remained behind to prepare for upcoming examinations.

Several of her personal belongings, including a laptop, were reported missing.

Police also later revealed that the victim’s ATM card had been used by a male suspect to withdraw money after her death.
