MUKAH: The Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) arrested 51 individuals who tested positive for drugs during a three-day integrated operations this week.

The operations, codenamed Ops Perdana/Ops Bersepadu, was conducted by the Mukah AADK Office from Aug 27 to 29, focusing on high-risk areas across the district.

“During the operation, 57 people were detained for inspections as they were suspected of drug abuse.

“Subsequent urine screenings found that 51 – 48 men and three women – tested positive for methamphetamine, which raised serious concern over the prevalence of drug abuse in the area,” the agency said.

In terms of age, 37 were between 19 and 40, 12 were between 41 and 50, and two were between 51 and 60 – a statistic that shows young people remain the most vulnerable to addiction.

Those who tested positive will be charged under the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for further action.

Sarawak AADK said the operation was part of its ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse at the community level.

The agency assured that they would continue strengthening enforcement alongside prevention and rehabilitation programmes to protect the state from the drug menace.
