MIRI: Two men and a woman aged between 24 and 31 have been detained by Miri Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Division on Wednesday on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse.

The suspects were rounded up during a raid led by Inspector Mohammed Basheer in a parking lot at Jalan Bendahara here at 1.15pm.

Miri deputy police chief, Supt Sabri Zainol when confirming the arrest said, two of the suspects were tested positive for methamphetamine (syabu).

He added that during the raid police also found and seized three red aluminium foils containing 49 pills believed to be Nimetazepam weighing 13.36g with a street value of RM1,200.

Nimetazepam also known as Erimin 5 is an intermediate acting hypnotic drug.

“Prior to the arrest, police spotted the trio behaving suspiciously inside a car. The team then walked up to the car parked in the area to conduct a search before they made the discovery,” Sabri said.

The suspects have been taken to Miri central police station (CPS) for further questioning while the drugs were seized as court exhibits.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
