BETONG: Three people had a lucky escape after the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in overturned and burst into flames along the Pan Borneo Highway near Debak here yesterday (Aug 10).
Fortunately, all three occupants escaped the crash at around 2 pm and had been taken to Debak Health Clinic by Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel before firefighters reached the scene.
The identities of the occupants were not disclosed.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the Perodua Alza was already engulfed in flames when firefighters from Betong station arrived at the scene.
The blaze also spread to bushes beside the road.
Firefighters quickly launched an extinguishing operation, bringing the fire under control at 2.35 pm.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation 10 minutes later.
The cause of the accident and losses incurred are still under investigation.
