WASHINGTON: Three people died after a small aircraft crashed late Saturday in the US state of Maryland, east of Washington, D.C., the Maryland Department of State Police said on Sunday, reported Xinhua.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the plane crashed in the wooded area of a park in the city of Bowie around 11.30 pm on Saturday local time (0430 GMT Sunday), the department said in a post on social media platform X.
The single-engine aircraft was flying from Ocean City, New Jersey to Montgomery County Airpark, a public airport in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
The victims included the pilot and two passengers, the department said.
Meanwhile, media reports from Israel on Sunday said three Israelis were killed in a light plane crash in Maryland, though it remains unclear whether the reports referred to the same incident. According to the Times of Israel, the plane belonged to a local flight school and may have been conducting a training flight at the time of the crash. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
