KUCHING: Three people, including two Chinese nationals, were killed in an accident involving a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle and a lorry trailer near Sg Sebemban Bridge, Semarakan at Jalan Bintulu-Tatau in Bintulu yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Kong Tze Hua, 57, Chen Hao Ping, 44, and Zhao Shugang, 51.

Another Chinese national, Tang Ding Ping, 43, who was seated in the front passenger seat, sustained serious injuries while the lorry driver, Sukri Julai and his assistant, Khairul Rizal Abdul Rashid suffered minor injuries.

It was reported that the four victims were heading to Sibu from Bintulu when the 4WD they were travelling in collided head-on with the lorry trailer before the two vehicles rolled down a slope around 7.30am.

Ten personnel in a fire engine and an EMRS vehicle from Bintulu fire station were mobilised to the scene after they were notified of the incident by police at 7.45am.

Upon arrival at the scene at 8.13am, the firefighters immediately worked to extricate all four victims from the vehicle.

The bodies of Kong, Chen and Zhau were later sent to Bintulu Hospital for further action. Tang was also sent to the same hospital for further treatment.

Traffic police personnel were at the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
