MIRI: Three local men have been arrested after a video showing a fight at an entertainment centre in Marina Phase 2 was circulated on Facebook.
The suspects, aged between 29 and 33, were arrested separately at different locations in Miri on Sept 14, within hours of police detecting the three-minute-seven-second footage.
Miri police said the District Criminal Investigation Division spotted the video on the Miri Edition Facebook page at about 5pm that day.
The footage showed several men involved in a fight inside the entertainment centre, prompting police to lodge a report at about 5.54pm and begin efforts to identify those involved.
Two suspects, aged 32 and 33, were arrested at about 9.50pm, while a 29-year-old suspect was picked up at about 11pm.
Initial investigations indicated that all three were believed to have been involved in the altercation captured in the video.
The trio have been remanded until Sept 17 to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Police urged members of the public, particularly patrons of entertainment venues, to exercise restraint and avoid disputes or provocations that could escalate into violence.
They also warned that firm action would be taken against anyone involved in violence or disorder in public places.
