MUKAH: Narcotics police have arrested three local men after uncovering suspected drug abuse activities in a secluded bush area along Jalan Mukah-Balingian yesterday (June 28).

The suspects, aged between 42 and 47, were taken into custody at around 12.30pm following intelligence-led surveillance by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID).

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the raid targeted a rocky trail hidden within a bush area, where officers believed drug-related activities were taking place.

“A search on the 42-year-old suspect, an unemployed man, uncovered a straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing about 0.18g.

“The other two suspects, both fishermen, were not found in possession of any illegal substances during the raid. However, all three men were taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation,” he said.

Subsequent urine tests found the trio positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Rizal said the 42-year-old suspect will be remanded until July 2 to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs and drug consumption.

The remaining two suspects are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption, and were released on police bail pending prosecution.

He assured that police remain steadfast in its efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking.

Members of the public with information on drug-related activities are encouraged to report to Mukah police hotline at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
