SERIAN: Police arrested three suspects, including two Indonesian nationals, and seized suspected methamphetamine weighing a total of 3.34g in separate operations here yesterday (July 17).
Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said officers from the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), with assistance from the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit, first arrested a 41-year-old Indonesian man at Simpang Kampung Saan, Tebedu.
“Police seized 23 plastic straw tubes containing suspected methamphetamine weighing 1.3g from the suspect.
“In the same area, a 28-year-old local man from Kampung Sungai Tapang Bayur, Balai Ringin, was also arrested, and police seized a plastic packet containing suspected methamphetamine weighing 0.7g,” he said.
Following the Indonesian man’s arrest, police raided his rented room in Serian town, where they detained an Indonesian woman.
Police also seized three transparent plastic packets and three plastic straw tubes containing suspected methamphetamine weighing a total of 1.34g.
All three suspects are being investigated under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs.
They are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act after preliminary urine tests returned positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Freddy urged members of the public with information on drug- and ketum-related activities to come forward and assist police in combating drug abuse.
He said the district NCID would continue taking stern action against drug traffickers and repeat drug offenders under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
