KUCHING: Three new rabies cases have been reported here between Mar 17 and 21.
The Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) in a Facebook post, said the cases were detected in Kampung Sejijak, Batu Kawa, where a free-roaming pet dog tested positive after a bite incident.
Meanwhile, the other two cases involved stray dogs in Taman Hillside, Matang Sungai Tengah, Padawan, and at MJC Pembinaan Kuantiti Factory, behind HK Residence, Padawan, both of which were also linked to bite incidents.
Following these detections, DVSS is calling on all pet owners to take preventive action by participating in an upcoming free mass anti-rabies vaccination and awareness programme.
The event, scheduled for Apr 12, at Dewan Masyarakat, Jalan Padungan, from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, will provide free anti-rabies vaccinations, dog licensing, and microchipping services.
Pet owners can also take advantage of subsidised neutering services for their dogs.
The department then stressed that rabies is 100 per cent preventable and urged the public to play their part in keeping the community safe.
For further updates, pet owners are encouraged to follow DVSS’s Facebook page.
