MIRI: A quiet morning in Kampung Pengkalan here today turned tense when three stray Rottweilers roamed into a residential compound, prompting a swift response from the Fire and Rescue Department (BBP Lutong).
According to the Lutong Fire and Rescue Chief Henry Jugah, the emergency call came in at 5 am from a local resident identified, who reported that several aggressive dogs had entered his property.
Within minutes, a Scania fire rescue tender carrying a four-man team led by PBK I (KUP) Awang Arizal was dispatched to the scene.
The crew arrived at 5.11 am, joined by two officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and two personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM).
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the presence of three large rottweilers within the compound. One of the homeowner’s livestock had reportedly been mauled.
After assessing the situation, the operations commander decided against direct engagement with the animals to avoid escalating the threat.
Instead, the team maintained a controlled perimeter and advised the resident to lodge a police report and contact the Miri City Council (MCC) for further action.
No injuries to residents or responders were reported. The fire crew ended their operations at 5.49 am and returned to base by 6.10 am after ensuring the area was safe.
Authorities have urged homeowners to remain vigilant and report aggressive animals to local councils for prompt action.
