SIBU: Three siblings were among 25 individuals detained after the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) carried out a two-day enforcement operation targeting drug abuse hotspots across Sibu.
The operation, conducted from Jan 22 to 23, involved raids at several locations around the town by a nine-member AADK enforcement team.
AADK said a key focus of the operation was early intervention, particularly after officers detected three siblings involved in drug abuse.
“The intervention was aimed at ensuring they receive treatment and rehabilitation, while preventing further deterioration of the family institution,” the agency said.
Preliminary urine screening found 22 individuals — comprising 16 men and six women — tested positive for methamphetamine.
All 22 are being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, which allows the court to order treatment and rehabilitation either at the National Anti-Drug Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) or within the community.
Meanwhile, one individual was referred under Section 8(3)(b) of the same Act after admitting to substance abuse involving pills believed to be Nospan, and will undergo rehabilitation within the community.
