SIBU: Police arrested three teenage boys for allegedly stealing copper water tap handles around Bukit Assek and Jalan Hua Kiew areas here.

The boys, aged between 13 and 14, were held during an operation, codenamed ‘Op Lusuh’, carried out between 1.50am and 3.15am on Tuesday (Aug 5)

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said they received a report from a 37-year-old man on Aug 1 regarding the disappearance of three water tap heads.

“Investigations found that similar thefts occurred at other residences around Bukit Assek area. A special task force was formed to track down those believed to be involved in the crimes.

“Through these arrests, police seized 29 copper water tap handles weighing around 3kg.”

With these arrests, police have solved several reported theft cases and effectively halted such activities in the district.

ACP Zulkipli stated that the boys have been remanded for three days until Aug 8 to facilitate investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they could face a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment or a fine.

“Members of the public are urged to continue report any crime activities to the police to support efforts in crime prevention and enforcement in this district,” he said.
