KUCHING: The preservation of cultural heritage and the fostering of intergenerational unity took centre stage as the Sarawak Tian Clan Association celebrated its 75th anniversary.

The event, held at Chung Hua Primary School No 2 on Friday night, was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who praised the association for its enduring commitment to upholding cultural values and nurturing younger generations.

In his speech during the celebration dinner, Dr Sim highlighted the significance of the occasion, which marked the association’s longstanding legacy, honoured senior citizens, and recognised academic excellence among its youth.

“Tonight, we are gathered not just for a meal, but to celebrate our unity, our traditions, and our future,” he said.

“Respecting the elderly and nurturing our youth are core values that strengthen our foundation as a community.”

During the event, around 50 senior citizens were honoured and presented with ‘ang pows as a token of appreciation.

Academic incentives in the form of ‘ang pow’ were also awarded to 12 primary school pupils, 16 secondary school students, and 15 university students from the Tian Clan.

Focusing on youth development, Dr Sim applauded the Chinese Youth Association under the Tian Clan for expanding its membership to 500 within just five years.

“Our youth association plays a critical role in nation-building. If it thrives, our future is secure,” he remarked.

The event also provided a platform to acknowledge outstanding students across different educational levels.

“These days, it is not about lacking the money to study. The real challenge is motivation. That is why encouragement and recognition are key,” he said.

“Our students are the future bearers of culture and the drivers of a better Sarawak.”
