SIBU: Pelawan assemblyman, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee is grateful for every new term of  leadership helming Tiang’ Clan Association Sibu (TCAS) and the willingness to sacrifice personal time and resources to maintain and promote the association to the younger generation.

He pointed out that TCAS since its inception 14 years ago is not easy to run.

“I also want to thank our ancestors for their vision to come all the way from China to Sibu to settle here. Nowadays, our generation is enjoying comfortable life and better off, but do not forget their contribution, how they built the place for us.

“This is also TCAS’ spirit that we continue to inherit and never give up but continue to work hard and stay united which is of paramount importance,” he said at TCAS’ 14th anniversary celebration dinner held here on Saturday night.

The event also witnessed the TCAS’ Women’s and Youth Group inauguration ceremonies, education  scholarships for members’ children as well as veneration of the elderly.

Tiang, who is also Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said the Sarawak government has transformed Sarawak into the golden years of development.

He said under the premiership of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, he has tried to transform Sarawak’s economy model from the old days of felling of trees and timber sale to selling sustainable energy services and even ventured hydrogen economy.

“We are so lucky to have our own rivers with water to generate power for hydrogen production.  But through all these technologies we are spearheading now, we need more and more talents.

“That’s why Sarawak government invested in our free tertiary education programme next year because we are lacking of required engineers and scientists to propel technological venture.

“The Sarawak government invested in our people and likewise, TCAS also invested in our people by giving academic awards to members’ children.  I think Sarawak in order to become very developed state, we need to invest in our next generation,” Tiang added.
