KUCHING: Deputy Minister for Public Health and Housing Sarawak Michael Tiang Ming Tee recently led a delegation from the ministry to pay a courtesy visit on federal Minister of Local Government Development (KPKT) Nga Kor Ming.
The delegation consisted of the permanent secretary, Tribunal members and senior ministry officers.
During the visit, Tiang sought updates from the KPKT regarding its recognition of the Gedong District Council which was recently approved by the Sarawak government.
“The recognition is needed to qualify Gedong District Council to receive federal funding for development and operation,” he said in the statement yesterday.
Tiang said he had requested for guidelines on the Bersih, Menawan dan Wangi (BMW) Toilet programme introduced by KPKT to be adopted by all local councils.
He added that Nga then suggested that the ministry identify public toilets where the Bersih, Menawan dan Wangi (BMW) programme could be implemented.
Nga conveyed that KPKT intends to propose a new legislation pertaining to urban renewal development, and he sought support from the Sarawak government for this Act when it is tabled later.
The Act is designed to facilitate the redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings across the country, enhancing urban infrastructure.
Nga briefed the delegation on the National Housing Policy encompassing various aspects, including the construction of houses under the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR).
