SIMANGGANG: Tidal Bore Boxing Club (TBBC) Sri Aman made a strong statement at the Twins Championship 103 last weekend, collecting three titles and seven runner-up finishes in its first appearance at a professional meet.

The tournament, staged for the first time outside Peninsular Malaysia, saw TBBC boxers step up confidently across the two-day card.

TBBC’s title winners were Ah Meng (76-80kg), Zulkarnain Iswandy (51-55kg) and Mohammad Zakwan Kamaruddin (51-55kg).

Seven others pushed through to the finals before settling for second place: Dennis (86-90kg), Alvin Bong (61-65kg), Muhammad Irfan Mohamad Ishak (56-60kg), Lazerius Chung Huang Sheng (56-60kg), Tristan Aeden Minggu (66-70kg), Rozmey (61-65kg) and Mohammad Zakwan, who also contested an Under-16 bout.

TBBC Sri Aman president Awangku Hafizi Awang Azahari said the results showed the club’s growing competitiveness and the strength of its training system.

“For a first run in the professional ranks, our boxers showed composure and discipline.

“The talent is there, and it reflects the work put in by the athletes and coaches,” he said in a statement.

He said the squad’s one-month preparation block helped sharpen their conditioning and ring work ahead of the event.

Awangku Hafizi added that hosting the meet in Sri Aman boosted morale for local fighters and highlighted the division’s rising boxing culture.

“Sri Aman has a steady pipeline of young boxers, and the support system around them is strong. This success is shared with the community,” he said.

Looking ahead, he said TBBC will continue to develop emerging fighters while maintaining its policy of balancing sport and academics.

“Some promising youngsters were rested because they are sitting for SPM and STPM. Their education comes first,” he said. – TVS
