BELAGA: A 44-year-old man lost his life when the timber-laden lorry he was driving overturned at Jalan Merudum Dam, here last night (Feb 14).
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that it received an emergency call at 8.36 pm, prompting the deployment of firefighters from the Belaga Fire and Rescue Station—a journey spanning 165km.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 10.40 pm and found that a lorry carrying timber logs had overturned by the roadside.
The victim, identified as Muhie Nawan, was believed to have been trapped and crushed by the logs.
According to firefighters, the rescue operation required the use of an excavator to move the lorry and logs that had pinned down the victim. The rescue team successfully extricated the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The remains have been handed over to the police for further action.
