BINTULU: A viral video of a violent attack in which a scissors-carrying gang member assaulted another has caused an uproar on social media.

The incident has triggered an outcry over a perceived increase in gangsterism in the town.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has since urged police to take strong, uncompromising action against those responsible.

“I have been informed that the suspect has surrendered to the police. There must be no leniency in such serious crimes; we must crack down on gang violence.

“This incident is too severe to be ignored,” said Tiong in his Facebook post on Monday (Feb 3).

Tiong who is Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister added that gang-related crimes must not be allowed to flourish.

“Those engaging in gang activities should leave before it is too late.

“If you continue to break the law and cause trouble, you will have to face the consequences,” he said.

Tiong also addressed previous allegations linking him to gangsters, firmly denying any association and reiterating his support for law enforcement.

“Some have slandered me, claiming I have connections with gangsters.

“I fully support the law and will never tolerate violence or crime, and I will not protect lawbreakers.

“No matter who I meet, my advice is always the same: follow the law and choose the right path.”

He also stressed that disputes should be resolved through legal means and never through violence and that he was committed to ensuring that Bintulu will always be a safe and peaceful place.

“My biggest hope is for the people of Bintulu to live in peace and safety.

“I fully support those who work hard to earn an honest living, but for those who use gang influence to create fear and disturb society, I will stand firmly with the police to ensure strict enforcement of the law without exception,” he stated.
