SIBU: Community leaders must continue to serve as a vital bridge between the government and the people, said Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture said community leaders must effectively convey policies and foster social harmony.
“Starting today, you bear the responsibility of assisting in the dissemination of government policies, coordinating community matters, and maintaining a stable and harmonious social environment,” he said.
He said this during the Dudong Community Leaders’ Appointment Letter Presentation ceremony which was held at Paramount Hotel here yesterday.
Tiong, who is also the Dudong assemblyman, reminded the community leaders to carry out their duties with integrity, honesty, and professionalism, stressing that they should be at the forefront whenever the community requires assistance.
“Regardless of rank, community leaders must serve with sincerity and avoid any misuse of power or involvement in corruption,” he said.
He also issued a stern warning against political interference in the appointment process of community leaders, stating that such positions are not political assets.
“Do not assume that you can interfere in the selection of community leaders simply because you hold a high position.
“Any abuse of power will not be taken lightly and will be referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” he said.
Tiong also emphasized the selection of community leaders must be respected and free from political influence, warning that any delays caused by personal agendas would not only inconvenience the people but also hinder stable socio-economic development.
“The appointment of community leaders is intended to serve the people, not to create confusion for personal gain,” he said.
