SIBU: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has contributed three units of Pest Control Pressure Pump to durian farmers in the Dudong constituency.
The contribution was handed over by PDP senior vice-president Cr Teo Boon Siew who represented Tiong to Dudong constituency Agriculture Affairs Working Committee chairman Joseph Yong last Saturday.
The working committee was established under the PDP Dudong branch to look after the welfare and affairs related to agriculture in the area.
The handing-over ceremony was witnessed by PDP treasurer-general Ting Huat Sing.
According to Teo, the three pump units would serve to exterminate the worms that live inside the durian trees.
He explained that due to the worm infestations, the durian trees were unable to produce fruits.
“Due to the problem, all durian trees along Jalan Stabau to Menyan area did not produce fruit this year.
“We are well aware of this problem that is affecting the durian trees in the area.
“Due to the height of the durian trees, the worms cannot be completely exterminated without the help of this pump. With this pump, it will facilitate the businesses of durian farmers and prevent the worms from affecting the durian trees,” he added.
