SIBU: A local prominent business figure, Tiong Kiong King, was unanimously re-elected as the chairman of Diabetes Malaysia, Sibu District Branch’s executive committee for 2025 -2026 term during its 33rd annual general meeting.
The meeting, which was held at a hotel here on Saturday, witnessed Dr Teo Hock Gin being elected as the vice chairman.
The secretary’s post went to Chua Song Seng, who will be assisted by Camilla Wong Chii Yiung.
Wong Chew Ewe took the treasurer’s post.
The committee members (medical) were Margareth Wong Ai Yung, Heng Hun Teh, Mary Bruno and Christina Ting.
The non-medical committee members were Alice Tang Kieh Ing, Richard Peter, Rosmah Abdullah @ Rose Jali, Anthony Anyih and Desmond Jeluwie Until.
In his address at the event, Tiong said since the branch’s establishment on January 31, 1992, it has played an important role in making the community more aware of diabetes.
However, he pointed out that there were still a lot more that needed to be done to control and prevent the disease within the community.
Stating that the branch has been quite active in 2024, he said it has carried the usual health screening and diabetes awareness programme in the community as well as a successful International World Diabetes Day programme on November 16, 2024.
“All of these have been achieved through good team work, commitment and dedication of every member.
“For the record, I, as the chairman, wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for your hard work, passion and sacrifice.
“Having said that, we must continue to work towards our goal and spend more effort to educate people who have higher risk of developing diabetes and to identify patients with poor control and give them counselling,” Tiong added.
