MUKAH: Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib has urged road users to prioritise safety during the festive season, reminding them to drive responsibly and avoid driving while tired or unwell.

“Before embarking on your journey, ensure your vehicle is in good condition, particularly the brakes,” she told reporters after launching a Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with the Festive Season at the Mukah Old Market yesterday (Dec 14).

“This is crucial to ensure everyone reaches their destination safely to celebrate with loved ones or enjoy their holidays.”

The campaign saw the distribution of helmets to both children and adults, aiming to encourage the public to adopt helmet usage as a habit.

“Apart from helmet distribution, we also provided ‘goodie bags’ and disseminated road safety information to the public,” Hanifah, who is also the Mukah MP, said.

Beyond road safety, she advised the public to take necessary precautions before leaving their homes.
“Ensure all electrical appliances are switched off, windows and doors are locked, and inform the police if you require house surveillance while away,” she added.

“For pet owners, please ensure adequate food supplies or make arrangements for alternative care to prevent them from going hungry.”
Also present were Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine and District Officer Peleadzman Ahip.
