KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has denied viral claims of an electricity tariff hike this month, calling them inaccurate and misleading.
In a Facebook post, TNB clarified that any adjustments to electricity costs are governed by the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) mechanism.
According to the company, the AFA mechanism, introduced in July last year, adjusts electricity costs according to global fuel prices and foreign exchange rates, with monthly adjustments verified by the Energy Commission (ST).
TNB also said it would lodge a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take action against the spread of false information.
The company advised the public against spreading unverified news to avoid causing confusion and unnecessary public concern.
Consumers are advised to refer to TNB’s official channels for accurate information on any changes to electricity tariff rates and to contact TNB Careline via social media or email for enquiries. – BERNAMA
