KUCHING: The Toastmasters International Speech Contests for Mandarin Clubs (Area D3-Kuching) highlighted exceptional public speaking talent, bringing together toastmasters, guests, and members of the public for a showcase of eloquence, confidence, and inspiration.
The event, held at the Kuching South City Council Auditorium on Mar 23, served as a valuable platform for participants to hone their communication skills while captivating the audience with compelling speeches.
The competition resulted in outstanding achievements, with Kuan Jia Yi, Bong Nai Shin, and Phang Soon Choi emerging as champions in the International Speech, Evaluation, and Table Topics (Impromptu Speech) contests, respectively.
These winners, who also received the Popularity Awards in their categories, will represent Kuching at the District 87 Mandarin Speech Contests in Bandung, Indonesia, competing against top speakers from other divisions.
In the International Speech Contest, Kuan Jia Yi from Padawan Foochow Association Toastmasters Club secured the championship, followed by Sharon Lim Pei Teng from Kuching Bilingual Advanced Toastmasters Club as first runner-up and Phang Soon Choi from Kuching Progressive Toastmasters Club as second runner-up.
The Evaluation Contest saw Bong Nai Shin from Kuching Progressive Toastmasters Club taking the top spot, with Sharon Lim Pei Teng from Kuching Bilingual Advanced Toastmasters Club in second place and Bong Chee Kian from Kuching Mandarin Toastmasters Club in third.
In the Table Topics (Impromptu Speech) Contest, Phang Soon Choi from Kuching Progressive Toastmasters Club emerged as the champion.
Sharon Lim Pei Teng from Kuching Bilingual Advanced Toastmasters Club took the first runner-up position, while Pei Mee Tian from Kuching Elite Toastmasters Club secured third place.
The Popularity Awards recognised outstanding speakers in each category. Kuan Jia Yi from Padawan Foochow Association Toastmasters Club received the award for the Prepared Speech category.
Bong Nai Shin from Kuching Progressive Toastmasters Club was recognised in the Evaluation category, while Phang Soon Choi from Kuching Progressive Toastmasters Club won the Popularity Award for Table Topics (Impromptu Speech).
