MIRI: A one-year-old girl was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped inside a locked car at a petrol station in Tudan on Wednesday afternoon, triggering an urgent response from the Fire and Rescue Department.

The incident occurred at a fuel station in Tudan shortly after 3 pm when the toddler, aged one year and five months, was accidentally locked inside a Toyota Vios. The vehicle was parked at the station when the emergency unfolded.

Firefighters from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station were alerted at 3.08 pm following a distress call from the child’s guardian, identified as Shukri. Within minutes, the station activated its emergency protocol.

A Fire Rescue Tender was mobilised at 3.09 pm and reached the scene five minutes later, covering a distance of four kilometres.

Upon arrival, the operations commander confirmed the presence of the toddler inside the locked vehicle. Although no injuries were reported, the situation was treated as high-risk due to the child’s age and the potential dangers associated with heat and restricted airflow.

After conducting a rapid size-up, the fire crew took decisive action. Using specialised rescue equipment, firefighters forced entry through the driver’s door. The operation was executed swiftly and with precision, ensuring the child was removed safely and without harm.

The rescue operation began at 3.15 pm and was concluded within five minutes. Firefighters remained on site briefly to ensure the situation was fully under control before returning to the station at 3.22 pm.
