KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has highlighted the importance of fostering tolerance, mutual understanding and respect as the foundation for harmony in a multicultural society.
He said this when receiving a courtesy visit from the delegation of Anglican Interfaith Commission at the Astana on Tuesday.
The delegation was led by the Anglican Archbishop of Kuching Datuk Danald Jute, accompanied by representatives from Egypt, Bangladesh, India and Brazil.
The visit was held in conjunction with the Anglican Interfaith Commission meeting taking place in Kuching from Oct 13 to 17.
Discussions during the meeting focused on interfaith dialogue initiatives at state and international levels and ways to strengthen cross-faith cooperation globally.
Wan Junaidi also expressed his appreciation to the commission for its continued efforts in promoting understanding and harmony among communities of different faiths, especially in Sarawak.
He voiced hope that the strong interfaith ties established would continue to grow through collaborative programmes and dialogues that contribute to peace and unity worldwide.
