KUCHING: The stakes were high and the lifts even higher at Battle of the Barbell 2025, where top athletes from Sarawak and beyond pushed their limits in a test of strength, stamina, and strategy at CrossFit Kuching Underground.
Organised by the Kuching Weightlifting Association in collaboration with the Sarawak Weightlifting Association, the second edition of the event held on May 10 featured three competitive divisions – Elite, Open, and Masters 40+ – drawing an impressive mix of seasoned lifters and up-and-coming talent.
With a growing number of competitors and an enthusiastic crowd, Battle of the Barbell has once again cemented its place as a premier strength and fitness competition in the region.
In the Elite Category, Felix Tujang Ik Tuphia Tugang emerged as the male champion, followed by Nigel Agas Daneil and Rasydan Adam Ramli in second and third place respectively.

On the women’s side, Katierina Bojing claimed the top spot, with Medelina Shereal Andy and Brickleen Jessie Hiew completing the podium.
In the Open Category, Aliff Adnan took the men’s title, while Jeremiah Paren Mat and Melchizedek Jeshua Jitam secured second and third place.
Chloe Chong led the women’s field, with Bleona Bujeng and Shirley Pung finishing as runners-up.
The Masters 40+ Category saw Lai Tze Hua take gold among the men, ahead of Chong Bui Kuek and Zaki Zainal, while Joey Siaw emerged as the sole champion in the women’s division.
In a statement issued by Kuching Weightlifting Association recently, it stated that the event drew participation from lifters not only from Kuching but also from outside the city, making it a weekend filled with community, competition, and celebration of fitness.
The statement added that spectators were treated to impressive lifts, dynamic energy, and a powerful sense of camaraderie.
“We’re proud to see how the competition has grown in just one year.
“This is more than a contest-it’s about building a strong, supportive lifting community in Sarawak,” said the organising team.
Battle of the Barbell continues to inspire both seasoned and aspiring athletes, and will return in 2026 with even more to offer.
