KUCHING: Tourism Malaysia Tokyo has claimed Gold and Silver awards at the Japan World’s Tourism Film Festival (JWTFF) 2026, held in Shiga, Japan, cementing the country’s reputation as a leading destination in the Asia-Pacific travel market.
The organisation’s promotional video, “VM2026 Surreal Experiences,” took home Gold in the Asian Competition Category and Silver in the Tourism Destination Country Category.
The film was recognised for its compelling narrative and creative portrayal of Malaysia’s diverse and immersive travel experiences.
The JWTFF, a member of the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT), attracted more than 1,334 submissions from around the world this year, making the double win a significant achievement on the global stage.
Tourism Malaysia Tokyo director Syaliza Abd Aziz said the awards reflect the country’s ongoing efforts to present Malaysia as a culturally rich destination to international audiences.
“We hope these recognitions will further inspire Japanese travellers to explore the beauty and diversity of Malaysia.”
The accolades come on the back of strong visitor numbers. Malaysia recorded 416,492 international arrivals from Japan in 2025, a 13.4 per cent increase from the previous year, pointing to growing demand from the Japanese travel market.
Tourism Malaysia said it intends to build on this momentum through continued promotional campaigns, industry partnerships, and digital content initiatives aimed at Japanese travellers.
