BAU: The ‘Bau is Going Green’ programme, organised by the Bau District Council, hopes to turn Bau into a clean and green district, said Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

He said this after the launching ceremony of the ‘Trash to Cash Drive-through’ programme held in conjunction with the Bau is Going Green 2020 programme at Tasik Biru here on Sunday (Dec 13).

The ‘Bau is Going Green’ programme started last year and it aims to promote cleanliness and reduce waste in the district.

For this year, the programme held various activities such as the ‘Trash to Cash Drive-through’ programme, gotong-royong and many more in order to educate Bau folk on reducing trash.

“The council detected that the rise in the volume of waste is usually during festive seasons. Just for Bau alone, the council collected about 60 tonnes of trash per day, which equals to one kilogramme of trash per person in a day, for a year.

“With this programme, the amount of waste is expected to be reduced to about 30 percent,” he said.

Henry added that the people of Bau welcome the initiative and are cooperating well with the programme.

“This shows that the people care about their district and the programme has educated them well to take care of Bau,” he said.
