KUCHING: A uniformed civil servant and five others have been remanded by the Magistrate’s Court today (Apr 27), to facilitate investigations into the murder of a man who was shot inside a car along Jalan Stephen Yong.
Court Assistant Registrar Heng Yi Min issued the remand order against the six suspects, aged between 26 and 45, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The first suspect, a traffic police officer from Bukit Aman, along with the second and third suspects, aged 29, 33, and 45, were remanded for four days.
Meanwhile, the fourth to sixth suspects, aged 25, 29, and 39, were ordered to be remanded for seven days
The remand application was made by investigating officer ASP Sylvarius Gopog, while the suspects were represented by National Legal Aid Foundation counsels Russell Lim and Zoe Chan.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Yesterday (Apr 26), Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said two friends, who were travelling in the same vehicle, brought the victim and a car to the Batu Kawa police station at about 5.30 am.
“They reported that their friend, who was lying unresponsive inside the vehicle, was believed to have been shot while they were travelling on the road.
“Responding officers and paramedics later confirmed the 34-year-old man dead in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound to his head,” he said.
Police later rounded up six suspects believed to be involved in the case at various locations between 4 pm and 5.30 pm. Also seized were a car, a pistol, and 10 rounds of ammunition.
Mohd Irwan stated that preliminary findings revealed that the group was involved in the shooting incident, and the motive is still under investigation.
