MIRI: A traffic signal pole at Merbau Junction here was knocked down by a speeding car on Friday (Dec 11) evening.

The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) said the case was classified as a ‘hit-and-run’.

“A report has been lodged at Miri Police Station.

“The incident was captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance camera installed by Sarawak JKR on the traffic light pole,” it said in a Facebook post on Monday (Dec 14).

The department added that the damaged pole was removed from the site on Saturday (Dec 12).

“Reinstallation of a new traffic signal pole is also being scheduled in a week’s time.

“Miri JKR will strive to ensure the safety of vehicles at this junction and minimise disruption to road users,” it said.
