Tragic loss highlights need for safe environment for children

KUCHING: The recent tragedy in Sibu Jaya that claimed the lives of three young children has highlighted the urgent need to ensure that environments accessible to children are safe and properly safeguarded at all times.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah stressed that all relevant stakeholders must review existing safety measures and strengthen preventive efforts where necessary to better protect children’s wellbeing.

“The protection of children remains our collective responsibility,” she said in a media statement today.

Fatimah also expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing the loss of young lives as devastating and heartbreaking.

On behalf of her ministry, she extended her deepest condolences to the families of the victims and conveyed prayers that they be granted strength, comfort and resilience during this difficult period.

As the case is currently under police investigation, she urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow authorities to carry out a thorough and transparent inquiry, while respecting the privacy of the grieving families.
