Trailer driver claims trial to reckless driving, causing siblings’ death

KUANTAN: A trailer lorry driver pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of reckless driving resulting in a road crash that caused the death of two sisters last week.

Muhammad Noor Azwan Abd Saman, 31, was charged with driving recklessly, which resulted in the death of car driver, Siti Nur Alia Saffiyah Zulkifli, 18, and passenger, Siti Mazurah, 30, near Felda Lepar Hilir traffic light at 11 pm on June 13.

The father of three was charged under Section 41(1) of the Transport Act 1987 which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine not more than RM50,000, upon conviction.

Magistrate Fatinah Abu Bakar allowed bail of RM7,000 with one surety and ordered his driving licence to be suspended pending disposal of the case.

The court fixed July 21 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Fadhlin Hani Khairon prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented. – BERNAMA
