KUCHING: A man died and three others, including a child, sustained injuries in two separate tree fall incidents in Mukah and Kanowit last night (Jul 17).

In the first incident in Mukah, a 43-year-old Pakistani man was killed after a tree fell and crushed him while he was riding on a motorcycle along Jalan Besar Kampung Penat.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Ishaq, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said it received a distress call at 9.04 pm and dispatched a team from the Mukah station, which arrived at the scene located about 13km away.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found that a tree had fallen and struck the rider. They immediately carried out cutting operations and moved the deceased to a safe location before handing the body over to the police for further action,” Bomba said in a statement.

In a separate incident in Kanowit, three individuals sustained minor injuries after a tree fell onto a Toyota Hilux along Rh Inyang, Batu 8, Sungai Ranan.

The department said its Kanowit station received a call at 9.03 pm and upon arrival, the rescue team found that two individuals were still trapped inside the vehicle, while a third individual had already been rescued by members of the public and sent to the hospital before the rescue team arrived.

“The injured individuals were a 33-year-old female, a 14-year-old male, and an eight-year-old female.

“The two trapped individuals — a woman and the girl, were later successfully extricated and were transported to the hospital for further treatment,” it said.

It added that the team proceeded to cut and clear the fallen tree before ensuring the area was safe.
