MIRI: Three individuals, including a woman, had a narrow escape when the car they were travelling in suddenly caught fire at Bekenu Bridge, Batu Niah last night (June 30).
The trio managed to flee their Proton Savvy just in time before the vehicle was engulfed in flames, leaving it completely destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The incident occurred around 7.15 pm as they were heading towards Bekenu from Batu Niah.
Firefighters from Batu Niah station rushed to the scene, about 37km away, after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arrival, they found the car already ablaze and proceeded to extinguish the flames using water from their fire truck. Firefighters also carried out overhaul works to prevent any reignition before wrapping up the operation at 8.55 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
