KUCHING: Three persons have been arrested for suspected drug possession at a residence in Taman Malihah, Matang here yesterday (June 8).

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspects aged 27, 35, and 37, had on them substances believed to be methamphetamine or syabu, with an estimated street value of RM2,540.

“One of the suspects handed the police four straws containing approximately 0.6 grams of syabu.

“Although the second and third suspects underwent physical body checks, no further illicit substances were found. However, a subsequent search of the residence led the police to uncover five plastic packets containing approximately 12.1 grams of suspected syabu on a mattress.

“A test conducted on all three suspects yielded positive results for methamphetamine, indicating their involvement in the illicit substance,” said Abang Zainal.

The suspects have a combined total of six prior criminal records related to drug offenses. Initial investigations suggest their involvement in drug-related activities over the past year.

The 35-year-old suspect admitted to owning the drugs found in the house, noting that the substances were allegedly purchased online in one-gram packets on a weekly basis.

However, all three suspects denied any connection with the 12.1 grams of suspected drugs discovered on the mattress.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1), Section 12(2), and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
