SERIKIN: More than 10 tonnes of frozen meat products believed to be bound for Indonesia were seized after soldiers intercepted a suspicious lorry near the Malaysia-Indonesia border last Friday (July 31).
The First Infantry Division said the seizure, valued at RM354,320, was made by personnel from the Third Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment (3 RRD) during ‘Ops Keris Parang’ at around 2.30 pm.
During patrols, the team spotted a white lorry covered with a green canvas travelling from an illegal route in Kampung Sebobok towards the border.
“The vehicle was intercepted at Rahman Oil Palm Plantation in Kampung Sebobok, about 900 metres from the international border.
“Further inspections found the lorry, driven by a local man, carrying 511 cartons of frozen meat products weighing an estimated 10,220kg.
“The driver failed to produce any valid travel documents or any legitimate documentation for the cargo,” the division said.
Also seized was a one-tonne lorry valued at RM95,000 and a smartphone worth RM1,000.
Both the suspect and the seized items were handed over to the district police headquarters (IPD) before the case was referred to Bau Veterinary Services Division for further actions.
The division said it would continue strengthening security along the nation’s borders to prevent cross-border crimes.
Members of the public are urged to report any information on illegal border activities to the authorities to help safeguard national security.
