WASHINGTON, United States (US): US President Donald Trump held talks with representatives of Vietnam, India and Israel regarding the recently imposed tariffs on imported goods, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti quoting a CNN report.

Trump is in touch with the countries’ representatives to negotiate individual trade deals that could soften the proposed tariffs before next week’s deadline, the report said citing a source.

On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order imposing a 10 per cent base tariff on all imports to the US starting April 5.

Higher, reciprocal tariffs on countries and territories with which the US has the largest trade deficits will take effect on April 9.

Some countries have already announced their intentions to retaliate against the tariff increases.

China, for example, said it would impose a 34 per cent tariff on all imports from the US starting April 10.

The US stock market lost USD6.6 trillion (RM29.17 trillion) in two days, the biggest drop in history. -BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
