KAPIT: The Kapit Scout Movement celebrated its 47th anniversary with a grand dinner at Dewan Suarah Kapit on Friday, honouring nearly five decades of shaping disciplined, responsible and community-minded youth in Sarawak.

Minister of Works Malaysia, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, praised the Kapit Scout Movement, first established in 1978, for its ongoing role in shaping the younger generation into responsible citizens and future leaders.

“For 47 years, the Kapit Scout Movement has made significant contributions to youth development, many of whom are now successful in various sectors,  whether in the private sector, public service, or politics,” he said in a speech delivered by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, during the dinner.

He also urged the local community to continue supporting the Scout movement, which he described as a strong and vital youth organisation that provides comprehensive training to prepare young people for future challenges.

“The principles of Scouting have been well-formulated and tested over time. With its long and proven record, the Scout movement should remain a top choice for young people,” he added.

He also emphasised that the Scout movement plays a crucial role in preventing youth from being involved in social ills by engaging them in positive and character-building activities.

Earlier, Sarawak Scout Council Deputy President, Datuk Mohamad Safri Datuk Abdullah, who represented  the Council President, Tan Sri Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom, expressed the council’s full support for the efforts of the Kapit Scout Council members, commissioners, and leaders in organising the celebration.

He commended the teamwork and dedication shown by the Kapit Scout Council, its commissioners, and leaders in ensuring the success of the event.

“This spirit of teamwork must continue to be the backbone of the Scout movement’s strength in the years ahead,” he said.

During the dinner, donations were also pledged to the Kapit Scout Council, namely RM10,000 each from Nanta and Jefferson, and RM5,000 from Baleh state assemblyman, Nicholas Kudi.

Also present were Honorary Commissioner, Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan; Deputy Chief Commissioner, Methodius Macdonald George Segie; Kapit District Officer and Chairman of the Kapit Scout Council, Cerisologo Sabut; Kapit District Scout Commissioner, Valarian Lainus; Executive Secretary of the Sarawak Branch of the Scouts Association of Malaysia, Zasran Abdullah; Kapit District Council representative, Martin Bilun; Tanjung Manis Holding Sdn Bhd representative, Edmund Sunek, as well as heads of government departments and community leaders.
