KUCHING: The craftsmanship of inmates at the Sri Kenyalang Songket Complex in Puncak Borneo Prison has shown remarkable improvement, with more refined and intricate designs, said Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj.
Tunku Azizah’s arrival at the complex at around 2:30 pm was warmly received by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
Also present were Dayang Norjihan, Sarawak Premier’s daughter; Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; and other distinguished guests.
During the visit, which lasted for more than an hour, Tunku Azizah took the time to personally observe and examine the intricate process of weaving songket fabric.
She also expressed her appreciation by purchasing several pieces of handmade songket as a gesture of recognition for the inmates’ dedication and diligence.
Adding a special touch to the occasion, Tunku Azizah also created a unique songket motif that blends elements of Pahang and Sarawak designs, symbolising the unity of art and culture between the two states.
To conclude the visit, Tunku Azizah graciously extended an invitation to Sarawak to visit Pahang and other Peninsular Malaysian states in the future to observe and learn more about the songket weaving process.
