ISTANBUL: Turkish authorities have detained 147 suspects over alleged links to Daesh extremists in raids across 33 cities and provinces, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Thursday, reported German news agency (dpa).
Yerlikaya vowed to maintain “relentless” operations against the “terrorists” in a message on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
The raids included Ankara and Istanbul.
Turkiye blames the group for an attack on a Catholic church in Istanbul that left one person dead late January.
In December, the government said it thwarted planned Daesh attacks on synagogues and churches as well as the Iraqi embassy in the country.
Turkiye has in the past witnessed several deadly terrorist attacks linked to the group.
The Daesh claimed responsibility for a 2017 Istanbul nightclub attack, which killed 39 New Year’s Eve revellers. — BERNAMA-dpa
