ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Türkiye will intensify diplomatic efforts at all levels until a ceasefire is reached with Iran, warning that a prolonged conflict would unleash regional and global turmoil, reported Xinhua.

“Türkiye is determined to intensify contacts at all levels until a ceasefire is reached on Iran and calm is established,” Erdogan said during a fast-breaking dinner with members of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in Ankara.

“We want bloodshed to stop, tears to cease, and for our region to finally attain lasting peace it has long yearned for,” he added.

Erdogan cautioned that the continuation of the Iran conflict poses serious risks beyond the region’s borders, stressing that nobody can handle such a burden.

While expressing solidarity with the Iranian people, the Turkish leader condemned the attacks on neighbouring Iran as a “clear violation of international law.”

“Türkiye is deeply saddened to witness suffering in Iran, where civilians and innocent children are bearing the brunt of this conflict,” he said. -BERNAMA-XINHUA
