KOTA SAMARAHAN: The TVET MyKomoditi 2026 programme attracted around 800 youths and students, reflecting growing interest in skills-based training and careers in the agricommodity sector.

Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri said the strong turnout showed increasing awareness among young people of opportunities in the sector.

“Today, we are not just organising a programme, but building a bridge between education and industry, between young talent and career opportunities.

“TVET is no longer a second choice, but a strategic pathway to build stable and high-value careers.

“The agricommodity sector is no longer a traditional field, but has evolved with modern technology, automation and innovation,” he said in his speech during the launching of TVET MyKomoditi 2026 programme at Dewan Pertubuhan Peladang Negeri Sarawak (PPNS), here today (May 4).

He said the initiative provides direct exposure to industry needs, training pathways and career prospects, particularly for school leavers and technical students.

Also during the programme, 35 participants from the second and third cohorts of the Harvesting Specialist pilot programme received their certificates.

The programme had trained 50 youths in 2025, with another 100 expected to undergo training this year.

It also featured career talks, industry exhibitions and hands-on demonstrations aimed at giving participants a better understanding of the sector.
